This was a weeklong trip to cross Niagara Falls off of my bucket list. It was also social, as I was off to Canada to celebrate my birthday with a “near-birthday-twin!” So this part of the trip was a bit more tourist oriented than most of my trips, as we worked to fit in all the “stuff” that a major tourist attraction like Niagara Falls has to offer.
Few destinations in the world can match the sheer power, beauty, and excitement of Niagara Falls, Canada. Situated on the border between Ontario and New York, this natural wonder draws millions of visitors each year — and for good reason. From thundering cascades to vibrant entertainment districts, it’s a place where nature and fun meet in spectacular fashion.
The Falls Themselves: A Front Row Seat to Nature’s Power
Niagara Falls is actually a trio: Horseshoe Falls (on the Canadian side), American Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls (both on the U.S. side). The Canadian vantage point offers sweeping, panoramic views — especially from the Niagara Parkway. Whether you visit in summer when rainbows dance in the mist, or in winter when icy formations glitter in the sunlight, the falls are breathtaking in every season.
For an up-close experience, hop on the Niagara City Cruises boat tour (formerly Maid of the Mist on the U.S. side). You’ll don a poncho, sail straight into the heart of the Horseshoe Falls, and emerge drenched — and exhilarated.
Attractions Beyond the Falls
While the waterfalls are the star, Niagara offers plenty more to explore:
- Clifton Hill – A colorful stretch packed with arcades, wax museums, mini golf, and the giant Niagara SkyWheel, perfect for a bird’s-eye view.
- Journey Behind the Falls – Walk through tunnels carved into the rock for a unique perspective right at the base of the thundering water.
- Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens – Stroll through beautifully landscaped grounds and visit the Butterfly Conservatory. Don’t miss the butterfly enclosure!
- Whirlpool Aero Car – A historic cable car ride over the swirling Niagara Whirlpool
Niagara Falls, Canada isn’t just a place you see; it’s a place you feel — in the roar of the water, the cool mist on your skin, and the awe that stays with you long after you’ve left. Whether you’re here for romance, adventure, or simply to marvel at one of Earth’s greatest natural spectacles, you’ll leave with memories that will last a lifetime.
